The National Equality March in D.C. this weekend

It's hard to believe that it's been 16 years since I participated in the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights with Andrew, Eric, Jojo, and other friends. The first such march was held in October, 1979.

Friends at the 1993 March on Washington

THIS WEEKEND the gays and lesbians are going back to the National Mall again to march for equal protection under the law. More here.

It would be great to hear more about your experiences at the 1979 march, Michael.

I wish I could be there tomorrow!
It will be interesting to see what kind of press coverage this will receive. I hope it is substantial, in the manner in which the more contentious healthcare "tea parties" were covered.

I dream about the possibility of having a number of gay rights "tea-parties" in many cities around the country....but my guess is that, like tomorrow's march, the rallies will be reasoned, there will be no racist placards, or wingnuts carrying guns to intimidate others into accepting their points of view, and in any case they would not be "sensational" enough to warrant more than a cursory glance...

But I hope I'm wrong, and that the media will pay lots of attention tomorrow....

It will be an emotional day...
