Smelly water update

I called the City of Henderson about my smelly water. They sent someone right out which impressed me.

The water guy smelled a glass of my tap water and agreed that it smelled, but said it was just chlorine. He measured it and the reading was .57 ppm which he agreed was relatively high but well below the 4 ppm (mg/L) safe level defined by the EPA. He said that chlorine levels are often higher in winter when citywide water usage is lower.

He also tested the water in my Brita filter which had .33 ppm reading. (Brita's literature which comes with their filters reports that they remove a minimum of 94% of chlorine when tested with water containing 2 ppm of the disinfectant, so in my case the results are far below their advertised claims.)

I checked Henderson's 2008 water quality report which states that the average reading for chlorine was 1.02 ppm.

Hmm.
