Sit back and enjoy yourself
(Video link)
I saw the movie at MemAud at Stanford when I was an undergrad. In one scene, the Barbara Hershey is reflecting on her situation. She is having an affair and unsure of where it's going. Her conclusion: to wait and see what happened in the spring, if I remember correctly.
In the timeline of the movie, she was willing to take this "wait and see" approach for several months. And at my age and in an environment where life was measured in academic quarters, waiting for months to see how a love affair turned out was incomprehensible to me.
That experience of incomprehension has remained with me vividly all these years. I've come to understand her perspective.
