Super Tuesday results open thread
- Obama: Georgia, Illinois, Delaware, Alabama, Kansas, Utah, North Dakota, Connecticut, Minnesota, Idaho, Colorado, Missouri, Alaska
- Hillary: Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, California
New Mexico still being counted...
Would have loved to have won California, but Obama will win a ton of delegates in the state. I'm just about as happy as could be with how the night went... to be honest, I was a little worried, and the results definitely exceeded my expectations!
9:50pm - MSNBC's very rough estimate of Democratic delegates won so far (not just counting tonight) is practically a dead heat, not counting super delegates. Obama has overcome huge 20+ percentage point deficits to beat Clinton in states won and pull even in the delegate count. :-)
9:43pm - And another call from MSNBC, Obama the winner in Alaska.
9:39pm - MSNBC just called Missouri for Obama! What an amazing night! Let's hope that Missouri's reputation for picking the winner in November (every election since 1900 except 1956) holds true this fall. :-)
9:12pm - Sigh, MSNBC projects that California goes into Hillary's column. Still way too early to figure out how they split all of those delegates.
9:07pm - OMG just noticed that Hillary and Obama have now switched positions in Missouri... Obama is now leading!
9:01pm - Obama is speaking about his earliest days as a community organizer on the south side of Chicago. He's using that experience to talk about the road ahead of this movement which is forming in the U.S.: "We are the ones we've been waiting for."
This man can bring us together. He really can. He's already doing it.
8:50pm - Democratic summary:
- Obama: Georgia, Illinois, Delaware, Alabama, Kansas, Utah, North Dakota, Connecticut, Minnesota, Idaho, Colorado
- Hillary: Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Arizona
8:29pm - Tim Russert on MSNBC just said that Hillary now has only about 90 more super delegates in her column than Obama has in his.
8:18pm - CBS is calling Obama the winner in Colorado.
8:15pm - MSNBC calls Arizona for Hillary. But Obama had his best showing there so far with Latinos, winning nearly 45% of their votes.
8:13pm - One of Obama's top consultants, David Axelrod, says on MSNBC that the campaign has between 650,000 and 700,000 contributors, only 3% of whom have reached their federal contribution limits. Obama raised almost three times as much as Hillary in January.
8:04pm - Huckabee's being interviewed on MSNBC. I'll say one thing for him, he's got a good sense of humor. :-)
7:56pm - MSNBC projects that Obama will win Idaho.
7:40pm - Democratic summary:
- Obama: Georgia, Illinois, Delaware, Alabama, Kansas, Utah, North Dakota, Connecticut, Minnesota
- Hillary: Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey
7:36pm - Romney is talking about the U.S. being in danger of becoming a second rate power. I understand his argument, but what a downer!
7:30pm - CNN projects Obama will win Minnesota. Mom reports that Obama won eight delegates in Harvey County, Kansas, and Hillary three.
7:10pm - CBS calls Connecticut for Obama.
7:09pm - CNN projects that Obama will win North Dakota.
7:04pm - Wow, Obama projected to win Utah! Yea!
7:00pm - Mitt Romney wins Utah, surprise! :-)
6:36pm - Kansas is called for Obama by CBS, woo hoo!
6:28pm - Checking out CNN.com, interesting that they've been much slower to project winners than MSNBC.
6:25pm - MSNBC projects Obama the winner of Alabama, ahead of Hillary almost two-to-one with around a quarter of the votes counted.
6:21pm - MSNBC reporting on delegate math. Obama did much better than expected in Illinois and Georgia. Hillary did somewhat better than expected in Arkansas and Massachusetts.
6:20pm - MSNBC calls New Jersey for Hillary.
6:16pm - Mom says Hillary may not reach the 15% viability threshhold at her Kansas caucus site.
6:09pm - Exit poll results so far: Hillary is winning women 51% to 46%, but Obama is winning men 52% to 43%.
6:03pm - MSNBC projects Obama will win Delaware.
6:00pm - MSNBC calls New York for Hillary. Georgia now being called a "landslide" for Obama. Oklahoma not close either. Still many "too close to call" states, even many that closed an hour ago.
5:57pm - MSNBC calls Massachusetts for Hillary.
5:52pm - Mom says that they are 30 minutes away from having their first vote at her Kansas caucus site... way behind schedule due to turnout.
5:51pm - OMG, MSNBC has Gov. Bill Richardson on right now... with a very scraggly beard! Good thing he was clean-shaven when he was running for President! :-) He says turnout has been huge... and there's been a surge among young Latinos for Obama, with older Latinos staying in the Hillary camp.
5:32pm - Just received a text from Mom who is at a Democratic caucus site in Kansas. She says there are around 2000 people there... there were 20 in 2000! She says the Obama camp is "huge."
5:30pm - MSNBC projects Hillary to win her home state Arkansas.
5:16pm - MSNBC projects Hillary to win Tennessee. There's a good overview of all the states voting tonight and the delegates at stake on the NYTimes website.
5:00pm - Obama wins Illinois, Hillary wins Oklahoma. No surprises.
4:00pm - Obama wins Georgia! Exit polls indicate that Obama split white baby boomers with Hillary... and he even did better among that age group than he did among younger whites. He decisively won 86% of the African-American vote.
