Golden waves of grain

At $15 a bushel, golden indeed. Check out this graph showing the spike in wheat prices. One likely contributor: as the price of corn has gone up due to its growing use in making ethanol, more farmland is being planted with corn, reducing the supply of wheat.

So not only do we have higher corn prices pushing up the cost of food, we've now got wheat exerting upward pressure as well.

And all this on top of the fact that corn-based ethanol is most likely actually increasing greenhouse gas emissions.

I just can't get over how smart we humans are!

(Thanks for the tip, Jack.)
