Devolution

On the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, only 39% of Americans stated that they believed in evolution in the latest Gallup poll.

I've always been a bit confused about the controversy over evolution because I've never believed it conflicted with a belief in God. Reconciling evolution and God seems only to require that God created evolution as the mechanism for revealing creation in all its glory. People with little scientific background may think that all that glory is revealed to the unaided eye, but there's more complexity inside a single human cell than in what can be seen in an entire human body. DNA, proteins, enzymes... all these microscopic structures which underlie life are as amazing as the creatures Darwin observed as he sailed the world. Surely if one believes in a Creator then one could appreciate that Creator using such beautifully elegant solutions to bridge the gap between the non-living and the living. To think that a few hundred atoms of just a handful of elements can be built into a three-dimensional structure that keeps every one of us alive! But that's all that insulin is.

But I guess if you think that the world was created a few thousand years ago, then this would be an issue (but do 61% of Americans believe that?).

By the way, PBS has a great site devoted to evolution with articles, videos, and teaching lessons. It has customized sections for both teachers and students.
