Our commitment to the space station may be waning

The Bush administration is quietly endangering the future of the U.S. space program according to a leaked email from the head of NASA.

Our future in space has some bearing on our future as a species. Carl Sagan reminded us with his words on our "pale blue dot" that this is the only home we've ever known and that, for now, it's where we'll make our stand. Stephen Hawking believes we must escape the earth in order to survive.

I believe Hawking and the other experts are ultimately concerned about *this* type of doomsday scenario, so eloquently illustrated for us by the Japanese, already somewhat familiar with apocalypse (of a sort).
