Appeasement?
After reading this article from the New York Times, I find myself wondering if Mr. Bush isn't engaging in a bit of appeasement himself. The U.S. response to Georgia's calls for support in the face of Russia's attacks has been tepid at best. (Those attacks, incidentally, have included strategic bombers and ballistic missiles. Here's a map of Georgia.)
And while Russia's military operations were underway, Bush cozied up with Putin to watch fireworks in Beijing.
Hmm.

Wake up, the cold war is over. Russia doesn't have to be an enemy, unless they are faced to make such a choice. In this case training the Georgian military, and encouraging them to provoke the Russians is a huge foreign policy blunder. Sakashvili clearly believed that he could quietly put down all oposition in Osetia, and that the US would step in and support Georgia. He forgot that Bush's word means nothing. He's now on his own after Georgia broke the cease fire, and deserves everything that's coming to him. Do not be fooled by his crying that he's "just like us". This is a foolish leader attempting to bite off more then he can chew. The Russians will now attempt to teach him a painful lesson.
Don't forget that the door for this sort of thing was opened with Kosovo. If bush thinks they have a right to be independent, South Ossetia can claim exactly the same thing.
I suggest that you actually research what you're talking about before spouting nonsense.
