Oil: how close we are to a crisis

The June 25th issue of New Scientist includes "Final Warning," an article about the risks to the world's oil supply arising from the small number of key pipelines and shipping routes that transport petroleum from producers to consumers.

Here's an interactive graphic that accompanies the article (which, unlike the article itself, is free for anyone to access).

One interesting fact which explains why we're addicted to oil: a single barrel of the stuff contains enough energy to equal the work output of five laborers working 12-hour days for a full year.

Whoa, get me some of that stuff!
